Joel Stein grew up in Edison, N.J., and went to Stanford. From 1997-2017 he was a staff writer for Time magazine, writing a regular humor column and more than a dozen cover stories; he was also the back page columnist for Entertainment Weekly and the opinion section of The Los Angeles Times. He has contributed to Bloomberg Businessweek, GQ, Esquire, the New Yorker, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, The New York Times Book Review, Elle, and Men's Health.Stein was a Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton and has appeared as a talking head on television shows such as Real Time with Bill Maher, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and VH1's I Love The '80s. In addition to writing on staff for two television shows, he created an animated show for VH1 (Hey Joel) and wrote six network pilots. I am 3 chapters in and can't understand how this has good reviews. There are sentences that aren't complete which is not the biggest issue. The book starts off talking about machine learning before getting into data analysis which all is a bit too much for a beginner's guide. I have taken other programming courses in the past and none of them jump right into the deep end of the pool like this book. The fact that the book references images that aren't in the book is just crazy. How does a book (I have paperback) get published like this? And it says to load a CSV file into python yet doesn't say where to get the file from or how to load it into python. Again this book says it's a beginner's guide so where is the explanation on how to do these things? I realize I can Google how to do all these things but then what is the point of this book? Waste of money or maybe a good fire if I get too cold.

Although there are some potentially useful concepts in this book, it is in places impossible to understand because the author apparently has little understanding of grammar and syntax, and invents words (what does "performant" mean, for example). By writing in a stream-of-consciousness, barely-literate fashion, the author shows outright disrespect for the reader and, worst, demonstrates that he or she simply doesn't care. Sometimes I have to map out sentences, try to deconstruct the gibberish, and then guess as to what the author was trying to say. After wading through three sections of this book, I came to suspect that the author has no concept of programming in general, or Python in particular, and is obfuscating a lack of technical knowledge with completely-nonsensical writing. I had to abandon reading this. It was a waste of my time.

When it deals with a subject, it not only tells you how things work but also why they work that way. It helped me gain a deeper understanding of the language. It also helped me think about how to structure my code. The examples and case studies are very broad in terms of practical coverage and they themselves are good learning materials as well. This is a real book well worth the money, unlike some other books out there which in some cases are simply copy and paste from different sources.

The grammar in this book is atrocious. Sometimes sentences make no sense at all and I was left scratching my head trying to piece it together. I am positive large parts of the book were just copy and paste from a website trying to sell products.

The examples and case studies are very broad in terms of practical coverage and they themselves are good learning materials as well. This is a real book well worth the money, unlike some other books out there which in some cases are simply copy and paste from different sources. It is written simply enough for him to understand, but still covers the important things. Glad I bought it.

Rating restaurants (and hotels) is a notoriously difficult business. No matter what you do, there will be some very valid criticisms. It is therefore truly remarkable how consistent and deservedly well-respected Michelin guides in Europe are. While nobody could agree with every rating, there is really nothing better, and hasn't been for a very long time.Unfortunately, the quality of the Guides decrease the further from Paris you go. The American ones are still quite usable, but are not as good as the competition. The Guides in Asia are hardly worth opening.The reviewers in Hong Kong and Macau were clearly not the best European reviewers period, but they were also still European, and so had difficulty reviewing any kind of Chinese cuisine. At the end of the day, Michelin simply ranked the places with established names high, and less famous ones low. Tastes may differ, but it is impossible to imagine that there exists a single person in the food-eating world that would give three stars to Robuchon in Macau while giving less to the ones in New York and Paris. And I don't think there is a single person who lived in Hong Kong for more than a year that would place Lung King Heen (a decent but very white-tourist-oriented restaurant in Four Seasons) as the top Cantonese restaurant in the city.This said, the guide follows famous touristy places rather well. If you are visiting Hong Kong for the first time, and have nowhere to turn for advice, this guide is probably better than nothing. You might end up spending more money, and eating much less well than you could, but at least you won't be completely lost. Which is the only reason I give this guide two stars rather than one.

totally enjoyed this book. I have been a fan of Jay Adams since he first appeared in the 70s. This book is a must for Jay Adams fans and skateboarding fans...especially from the Z Boys era in the 70s.

Great look into the early years of a legend.

I've been waiting for a book like this on Jay Adams for a long time, very cool images and I love the personal touch by Jay as well. I miss Jay every day, i'm glad his legacy will live on through style and books like this.
