What better subject than India and this photographer has set the bar.

I first bought this book in its paperback edition... I was so taken by the photographs that on learning that Phaidon was re-releasing the book, I gave my pbk copy to an Indian friend of mine (who loves it, as it reminds him of home). Looking forward to the re-release of this book, I was eagerly looking for it to become available.The re-release arrived just the other day. I can say that the photos are just as moving, heart-melting, and colorful as the original copy. HOWEVER, Amazon's "shrink-wraping process" ruined the cover of the book, and many of the pages of the book.So, I paid full Amazon price for the book, but were I to try to re-sell it, it would be "damaged."To say that I'm a little piss#d is an understatement.It _is_ a beautiful book, with a wonderful overview of Singh's work - my favorites are the boys diving from the tops of submerged temples on a flooded Ganges, and a pic of a muscician from Tamil Nadu...I just wish the condition of the book were better.

I like RS's style. It's a mix of layering, natural framing, documentary, travel and juxtaposition. And the colors are really appealing. Collector's item!

All of India. This book shows India as what it is, chaos, color and you can almost smell it.

Purchased for my father who has a strong interest in the people of India. He loved it. This book focuses on the people rather than the places.

Absolutely gorgeous book with great color reproduction and print quality. Must have for photobook collectors.

More like high school pamphlet. Misleading advertising. Information in book is very general, even spelled merijuana and grammatical areas ON THE BOOK COVER. Author has less knowledge than most sick people that can get all this info for free with studies and scientific data attached online, this guy seemed to write a pamphlet of basic info and no details or real info. The description of this (not big enough or professional to be called a book) is very misleading for a useless “book” of nonsense and generic info with no details. 2 paragraphs for 3 health conditions is not a resourceful book. Authors claims of book contents are flat out fraud.

This book helped me to communicate with some of my friends. It was very easy to use and understand. Good book.

This book does not explain Portuguese grammar to you, throws it at you. The verbs are diabolic. You are told that the present indicative mood has a number of different meanings in English. You are told that "eu falo" can mean I speak, I am speaking, I do speak, I shall speak. If this is the case, surely the reader should be given some guidance on these meanings. No, there is no guidance, which is really missed in a teach yourself grammar. It is also surprising in a book that keeps telling the reader that you are getting lots of helpful advice. Are you? Not really. You may find out that the supposedly helpful advice is wrong. For example the book tells you rather patronizingly not to see the preterit as a frightening array of new forms to learn but to make the patterns shown in the book work for you. Do they? No. Why? Because they are wrong. They tell you that the verb maintains the original letter it had in the infinitive (a/e/i).On the previous page there is evidence to the contrary. For example "falei" and "falou" do not maintain the "a" or "comi" the "e". You don't say "falaei, falaou, comei" (wrong!) for I spoke, you spoke, I ate. In this grammar each page you turn you don't know whether you are going to get the right or the wrong information. I regret buying this book. It was a waste of money.

This grammar is acceptable if your aim is to learn Continental Portuguese but I cannot reccomend it to anyone who wants to learn Brazilian Portuguese. Buy an excellent MODERN PORTUGUESE grammar written by one of the Brazil's most famous and trusted linguists: Mário Perini instead.

This book lays out a very detailed plan for all aspects of services during Lent, Holy Week, Easter day and the Easter season. As an altar guild directress, I have found it invaluable in answering my questions about ceremony. One goes along Sunday after Sunday throughout the year, and then up come these seasons and there's always a nagging "How do we...?" question that comes up in my mind, even though I thought I made meticulous notes the previous year. But, this is more than just a guide that can assist an altar guild; it covers every aspect of the services and would be most helpful to anyone who is involved with the ceremonies of the church. Note that it is written as a guide to ceremony in the Episcopal Church, so it would not be helpful to everyone, though it might make for interesting reading to see how it's done in Episcopal churches. It is a companion to the work done by the wonderful Howard Galley, whose name is spoken in reverent tones by many of us who love traditional liturgy and who love to have things done 'the right way.' Of course, I realize that Jesus Christ did not author this, nor would I elevate it to the status of works inspired by God, such as the Holy Bible. And I do know that God does not care how we worship. God just wants us to show up. But, nevertheless, when one is doing something, it's nice to have a guide to tell you the 'right' way, and then one can deviate from that if one so chooses. Me, I don't much like the deviations, but maybe that's because I'm old! And maybe I'm lazy, and just want someone to tell me what to do so I don't have to figure it all out by myself.

This book provides step-by-step guides to the liturgical services of Lent, Holy Week and Easter. It is a companion to Howard Galley's excellent resource "Ceremonies of the Eucharist." Mitchell writes for anyone involved in leading, planning and participating in the services in Episcopal/Anglican churches. The book assumes a medium-size parish with typical resources; however, the guidelines are useful for churches of any size and that meet in any type of facility, as the instructions can be modified to suit tastes and resources.Like Galley, Mitchell conveys the attitude that if liturgy is worth doing then it is worth doing very well. His writing will help readers make the best of important services in the church year.For Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week (Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, & Holy Saturday), Easter Vigil and the Great Fifty Days of the Easter Season Mitchell offers detailed instructions. He includes optional details, history and theology behind the liturgy. The details will help churches start a service tradition like Maundy Thursday for the first time or improve current tradition.I recommend that Episcopal/Anglican leaders add this book to their libraries and refer to it when planning these services.

I would have preferred it to be the same size as the others in the series as it doesn't fit the shelf easily.

This book seems to have many problems in keeping linear. I will say for those who are students of this campaign there is some very wonderful quotes from those who were there. All in all it was a decent book, just too much jumping around, and it seemed a little rushed.

I ordered this book based on the publisher's description (and cover artwork), expecting it to detail Operation Mercury from a balanced point of view, albeit with an emphasis on the German side of the operation and with sources from the various sides of the battle, i.e. German, British, Cretan, etc. Unfortunatley it is not at all like that, rather the author's listed sources are largely previously published English secondary sources, very little use of in-text citations and when he does it is mostly to the same few sources. Not that I was expecting every photo to be a previoulsy unpublished photo, but the photos were disappointing also and mostly of/from the Allied soldiers perspective. The style of writing is more appropriate for a book written by a print jounalist rather than a serious historical study of the battle and its participants. I don't doubt that the author put hardwork into this volume, but it is NOT as advertised by the publisher.

Terry Linhart (PhD, Purdue University) is director of the youth ministry and adolescent studies program, professor of youth ministry, and chair of the department of religion and philosophy at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana. He previously served in full-time youth ministry for fifteen years with Youth for Christ and as a youth pastor. Linhart directs the Youth Specialties Academic Support Network and is the author of six books.

It has been often said that the young is the future of our society. In churches all over the world, the young are also the future of the leadership of the Church. How the children and formed when young often becomes the way they help lead the Church in the future. What then are the factors to guide them? How can the leaders of today help the formation of the leaders of tomorrow? How can we navigate the complex realities today for an unknown tomorrow? If adults are already facing difficult challenges, how can we expect the young to tackle their generational challenges if we do not lead by example? This book's premise is that teaching Christian Formation is an imperative, not an option. We need to help them understand spiricual formation and that learning happens at all ages. We need to be guided by important theologies and appropriate theories. We need a repertoire of creative methods and to be committed to the spiritual disciplines like prayer, and spiritual transformation. We need to teach not merely to download information but to work toward spiritual transformation and growth. This means working toward maturity and be anchored in Christ. It also means discipleship. The book is subdivided into five sections.1) Core ConceptsAllen Jackson links teaching with discipleship and presents various models on discipleship. From the Old Testament, Jeff Keuss gives a theological angle by understanding our formation in terms of "cycles in our faith journey." Ron Belsterling adopts several New Testament passages to show us the scriptural basis of teaching. Bob MacRae looks at the quality of the teacher and reflects on the six characteristics of an effective Christian teacher. Mark Cannister describes the five basic philosophies of education; the three curriculums; the three educational objectives; and gives us a broad overview before encouraging us to adopt and adapt them to our contexts. Andrew Root connects the shape of human knowledge and Christian ministry to help us teach the young to stay balanced even as they ponder upon their own spiritual journeys.2) Influences that Shape LearningThis section provides a dialogue between theology and educational psychology. Barrett McRay looks at the way people learn and the three dimensions of learning: Cognitive; Behavioral; and Dispositional. Karen Jones recognizes the unique learning abilities of individuals and compares the global and analytic characteristics of learning. She uses Howard Gardner's eight intelligences and the five learning styles inventories to show us that the key to learning is to understand our own learning dispositions. Sharon Galgay Ketcham adopts a social theory of learning and the importance of community to the educational objectives of the organization. David Rahn believes that the key to learning is motivation while Ginny Olson notices the intricate relationship between culture and diversity of learning.3) Three Curricular Implications for TeachingEffective teaching requires a good roadmap. Terry Linhart says that there are currently two types of curricular theories. The first is the "technical one" where one identifies the desired outcome and then plans accordingly. The second is the experiential one where one literally learns on the fly. He then lists several curriculum formats one can use. Scottie May chooses to focus on teaching children and suggests six concepts. Amanda Drury believes that teaching young adults requires an understanding of stages of faith theory. Brenda Snailum sees families as integral to the learning experience of the children. Ken Castor sees equipping generative faith and leadership as fundamental ways to influence young adults. Mark Hayse takes a look at educational technology and provides us some useful questions to mix and match resources with methods.4) Methods for Christian TeachingThis section focuses on the how-to ways to teach. Duffy Robbins looks at the laws of learning and the importance of learning by doing. Troy Temple uses the discussion platform to facilitate learning. Jason Lanker gives some tips on how to teach large groups. James Hampton adopts the storyline technique while Karen McKinney points out the way to learn via simulation. Doug Gilmer contrasts and asserts the importance of learning outdoors in a world where people are increasingly living indoors.5) Managing Teaching for Maximum ImpactTeaching for impact is a concern for many teachers. No one likes their students to learn quickly and forget quickly. Kerry Loescher says that constant evaluations facilitates continuous learning experiences. Robert Brandt believes that equipping others to teach is a way forward to pass the learning and teaching baton. Freddy Cardoza gives a theology of technology and uses modern technologies for learning.This book is one of the most comprehensive handbooks on Christian Education and learning. Great book, for kids and adults alike. The story is written in a simple, straight-forward way that engages the youngest child to adult. My parents took turns reading it to my three year old daughter and she sat through the entire book (it’s quite a long book)! I really wanted to introduce my children to one of America’s greatest presidents as early as possible and this book does the job in a way that’s very accessible to children. I think the authors did justice to a such a compelling and inspirational American statesman.

A wonderful book, teaches frugality, courage, virtue, culture.

After reading comments by another reader on the dated, and possibly offensive, depictions of African-Americans and Native Americans, I reread this book, a childhood favorite of mine. I do think the reader has a valid point and i discussed them with the mother of the child to whom I planned to give the book. After this discussion, we decided that it was okay for me to send the book. Some of the drawings of African-Americans are caricatures and offensive to me. My decision in which the child's mother concurred, was that given the parents' inclusive values they could help to place these drawings in their historical context. Also, this book is only one of numerous resources from which the child is learning about Abraham Lincoln.I still like the book very much. I have remembered a few of the illustrations since the book was read to me when I was six years old. I especially like the attention the book pays to Sarah Bush Lincoln, Lincoln's stepmother, who played an important role in his childhood.

Authentic writing from original sources makes this a great foundational knowledge base for children!

It is ver inspiring and interesting to 3 out of 4 of my kids. The littlest one is 3 so he doesn't get it..

no home should be without these books!

I enjoyed this book written about Abe Lincoln. The information was factual as well as interesting to keep the reader involved and interested. The author was factual and it's well written.

Very well written and illustrated. I bought it for a younger member of the family.

I do not like this book

Best price for an excellent book in good condition. What else could I ask? Thank you

Good book for learning a bit more about C and algorithms and such. It was advertised as "new, never opened" which was not true as it had pages that were bent as bookmarks and had some wear on the edge and back, but this issue was identified and resolved by the seller. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the contents of the book itself are a bit difficult to directly apply to projects and such compared to many other such books.

I have used this book in my data structures class. It has some good points. It covers each and every data structure in depth and discusses multiple implementations of each of them. It also makes liberal use of diagrams showing what the data structure is supposed to be doing in memory at that time. The problem with it is that it deals with everything very theoretically, often times letting the user puzzle out the implementations themselves. It is overly wordy, the explanations could be cut in half and made much more to the point without loosing anything. I don't know about anyone else but I like to be taught how to do something and then play with it for understanding. I don't like to have the entire theory of what is supposed to happen explained to me in the abstract and then being left to get it or not. Although there are people who learn best this way. If you are one of them then by all means pick up this book. Although this books claims to be a book for a second course in computer science, I disagree completely. Although it does have excellent diagrammatical representations of the underlying theory and concepts behind the data structures presented in the book, the explanations are extremely lacking. It is more of a discussion among computer scientists who already understand the concepts presented, as it just touches on a few points and leaves the rest our completely. I am using this book for a Data Structures class (which happens to be the second computer science course offered at my university) and it really has been a painful experience. The problem is that it will show you small pieces of the code needed to implement the data structures, and discusses them in general, but it doesn't give you enough to use if you don't quite understand and want to play around with some simple code until you do. I have had to either use code provided by my professor, or have gone online to find random course websites with a simple implementation of a particular data structure. It seems that, as an introduction to data structures, it fails; and if you already understand the material you would follow the book, but if you already understand it, you wouldn't be reading the book anyway. Skip this book! I wish I had another one to recommend in its place, but I haven't been able to find one.
